Join us at East Stanford Community Garden, one of our 16 community gardens. Located behind Schweitzer Church on East Sunshine, this site has transformed into a coexisting market farm and community garden. Volunteers will be helping with gardening activities such as weeding, harvesting, and mulching. During our time together, we also hope to restore our garden pergola and greenhouse! We will be staining the wood on the greenhouse and pergola, so be ready to get your hands dirty. Gloves will be provided, and you are welcome to bring your own. Our garden serves the surrounding Oak Grove neighborhood, donates produce to our two food distributions, and plot rents over 75 garden beds to local refugee families and community members.

Q: How do Day of Caring volunteers make a difference? A: Day of Caring volunteers can make a difference with us at Springfield Community Gardens, where our vision is to create a community where everyone has access to healthy, local food. Volunteering at our community gardens helps to provide healthy produce options to low-income, low-access neighborhoods. Our East Stanford garden site is special in that it hosts both a market farm model and a community garden. The East Stanford Community Garden side offers neighborhood residents garden plot rentals for $5 a season. The East Stanford Market Garden began with the intention of building a market farming site for Chin farmers in Springfield. This site implements regenerative agricultural techniques and is built and maintained by the SCG Farm Team, the Garden Leader, Chin farmers and community members. |
