MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
What We Do
The Salvation Army of Springfield, MO, is a faith-based nonprofit organization that provides a wide range of social services to individuals and families in need throughout Greene and Christian counties. Its focus is on serving the most vulnerable members of the community.
Key programs and services offered by The Salvation Army of Springfield include:
1. Emergency Shelter – Provides emergency housing, meals, and case management for unhoused men at the Harbor House. The Family Enrichment Center offers transitional housing and supportive services for families experiencing homelessness. Homeless Prevention assists individuals and families with rent, and case management to prevent eviction or help them quickly regain housing.
2. Food Insecurity - The Customer Choice Food Pantry distributes groceries and hygiene items to families and individuals experiencing food insecurity. The Frontline Feeding Program serves free hot lunches to the community, Monday through Friday. The Senior Citizen Daily lunch program provides a nutritious meal and fellowship to area Senior Citizens.
3. After School Childcare Program and Summer Day Camp – Childcare at THE SAL After-School Program o ffers a safe environment for youth with tutoring, snacks, and enrichment activities. Day Camp at THE SAL provides educational, recreational, and character-building activities for children during summer break.
4. Spiritual Care and Church Services Weekly worship services, Bible studies, and pastoral counseling are offered for anyone seeking spiritual support.
5. Seasonal and Emergency Assistance Christmas Assistance includes the Angel Tree gift program for children and seniors, and the iconic Red Kettle fundraising campaign. Disaster Relief responds to local and regional disasters by providing food, water, emotional and spiritual care, and recovery support.
6. Social Services and Case Management Offers individualized support to help people overcome barriers to stability, including job readiness, transportation assistance, life skills training, and referrals to other community resources.
Overall, the Salvation Army of Springfield works to address both immediate needs (food, shelter, safety) and long-term stability (housing, employment, youth development), helping individuals and families move from crisis to independence with dignity and hope.
